Ballroom standard dancing

Ballroom dancing is very popular in European counries. Probably most of you know such dances as Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot and Quickstep. Some of them are very expressive as Tango, some are quick as Quickstep, but most of them are calm and quiet.
Let's look through some of them.

There are 5 dances included in Ballroom Standard Program. All of them are compulsory perfomed on  ballroom competitions. Today you will discover some dances and will be able to enjoy them by clicking on the video.

Waltz
It is usually called "Slow Waltz" or "English Waltz". This dance is very popular and it is considered traditional on weddings. This dance is the oldest dance in Standard program. It appeared in 16th century and was one of the first dances perfomed in a close position. On the basis of Waltz dance many other dances were created. So that new types of Waltz and some other ballroom danceswere developed. Nowadays Waltz has many styles and varietes of dancing, but only Slow Waltz and Viennese Waltz are included in the program of Standard ballroom dances.
Waltz is very beautiful dance and you can make sure with this video.

Expressive dance of love and passion. Tango is very rhythmical dance. It's frequently shown in many movies, e.g. "The Scent of a Woman", "Shall we dance", "Moulin Rouge!", "Chicago" and other famous films.
It appeared in the end of 19th century in Argentina and few years later bacame very popular all over Latin America.
Originally Tango is Argentinian dance and there are many styles of Tango. Among them there are such styles as Argentine tango, Uruguayan tango, Ballroom tango, Finnish tango and vintage tango. About different styles you'll be able to read soon, but now I offer you to enjoy the video.

Viennese Waltz
It's fast version of Slow Walts. This dance is much quicker then it's "predecessor". It emerged in 18th century in Austria. People used to dance Viennese Waltz on balls and informal meetings. Since then it has changed a lot and it became a part of Standard ballroom dancing program.
The technique of Viennese Waltz is to rotate constantly clockwise or anti-clockwise. It's also called natural and revise directions.

Foxtrot
Foxtrot has a name which gives a perfect and exact description of this dance - "Fox" "trot".
This dance originally came from the USA approximately in 1914. The origin of dance is still unclear but many people believe that Foxtrot was invented by the actor, Henry Fox. Soon Foxtrot became very popular, it expanded to Europe and became one of the most popular ballroom dances. It's included in the Standard program and perfomed on competitions.
As it's slow dance it's usually called "Slow Foxtrot" or "Slowfox".

Quickstep
As you can guess according to the name of the dance it's quick and consists of many movements. It differs a lot from other standard dancing.
This dance appeared in 1920s as a combination of several dances. 7 years later it was included in the standard programm dancing. Nowadays Quickstep is the 5th dance in Standard Dancing program.  It is very dynamic and there are lots of movements in it. For example, runs, twists, rotation, quick steps and others. While dancing you can talk away the tempo of Quickstep "Slow-Slow-Quick-Quick"
As for me, it's one of my favourite standard ballroom dances.
